I had the great fortune to work as an intern at PUSAT PERUBATAN VETERINARY SMALL ANIMALS during my second semester as a veterinary student. My understanding of the veterinary medical sector has improved significantly as a result of this experience. This internship provided me with more than just a chance to use the academic information I learned in my studies. It did, however, also provide me with a clear grasp of the practical aspects of veterinary medicine. I had the opportunity to learn more about the intricacies of a busy veterinarian clinic, customer interactions, and the dynamics of animal health during my time there.
Since day one, I have been introduced to the various and intricate tasks related to animal healthcare. The clinic’s regular activities consisted of check-ups, surgeries, emergency treatments, vaccinations, and client consultations. During my internship, I mainly helped the veterinary team with animal care, equipment preparation, and the smooth operation of the clinic. Even though my responsibilities were initially small, over time I started taking on more important tasks related to animal care.
I have been introduced to the many complex activities involved in providing animal treatment from the very beginning. Regular procedures performed at the clinic included examinations, operations, emergency care, immunizations, and consultations with clients. Throughout my internship, I mostly assisted the veterinarian staff with clinic operations, equipment setup, and animal care. My early responsibilities were modest, but as time went on, I began to take on increasingly significant animal care-related duties.
One of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of the internship was helping with medical procedures. I got to see a variety of procedures, including c-sections, spaying and neutering, and urgent wound care. Observing these procedures taught me a lot about how exacting and meticulous veterinary surgery is. As I assisted with setting up the operating room, I made sure the surgical instruments were prepped and sterilized. I eventually had the chance to assist with the post-operative care of animals, which was crucial to their recuperation. I learned from taking part in these activities how important teamwork, cleanliness, and attention to detail are to providing effective veterinary care.
Dealing with animals was a unique difficulty, particularly those who were in need. I quickly discovered that caring for animals requires patience and compassion in addition to skill. Many animals were hostile, especially the ones who were hurting or afraid. One of the most important aspects of my schooling was learning how to calm anxious animals, secure them appropriately for examinations, and provide comfort throughout medical operations. This portion of the internship taught me the value of nonverbal cues when interacting with animals and how to appropriately respond to their needs.
Interacting with consumers was a vital component of my internship. I helped pet owners by answering their questions about their pets’ health, scheduling appointments, and outlining post-treatment care. In veterinary medicine, good client communication is essential since pet owners rely on veterinarians to help them with their animals’ medical needs. It was interesting to learn how to connect with clients straightforwardly and sympathetically, especially during difficult situations. It underlined how important it is for pet owners and vets to build trust.
I improved my time management abilities throughout my internship, which turned out to be quite helpful. The clinic was always packed, so it took skill to prioritize and organize work in order to manage to get the animals ready for treatment, help with procedures, and clean up afterward. Furthermore, because of the clinic’s fast-paced atmosphere, it was possible for situations to arise out of the blue and require immediate attention. During those situations, I learned how to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to instructions, which helped me deal with high-stress situations.
There were quite a few difficulties during the internship. I occasionally had trouble understanding some medical jargon and procedures. A great deal of knowledge is needed to practice veterinary medicine, especially when handling complex medical cases. Nevertheless, these challenges inspired me to put in more effort and ask questions, which eventually helped me build a stronger knowledge foundation.
In conclusion, I would say that my experience at PUSAT PERUBATAN VETERINARY SMALL ANIMALS was transformative, and that I learned a great deal about veterinary medicine. It was the perfect complement to the intellectual information I had gained from my schooling. The hands-on experience I have gained from dealing with animals, watching procedures, and interacting with clients has improved my professional growth.
