Kegiatan Luar Kampus is a requirement of the PPDH Clinic Departement whereby you are given 3 weeks to experience the clinic life. A few clinics around Surabaya were listed for the junior veterinarian to choose from and I chose Intimedipet Clinic as my clinic. This requirement was carried from the 15th January – 3rd February 2024.
A lot of experiences and knowledge were gained from learning how to restrain an animal, giving injections and treatments, preparing medications and the surgical instruments, also assisting in surgeries. Other than that, I also learned how to communicate and maintain a good relationship with the pet owner which is an important part of a veterinarian job.
I have experienced many different types of cases and surgery throughout the 3 weeks such as cats and dogs that are affected by influenza, diarrhea, fever, hernia, dystocia, pyometra, bite wound, mammary gland tumour and many more. I also had the chance to follow the veterinarian to housecall and was able to assist as well.
This requirement from my PPDH has given me the opportunity to experience a veterinarian life in Indonesia and also a chance to treat the animals under the veterinarian’s guidance. This also unintentionally has been a learning process to me because to become a veterinarian is to learn for a lifetime which applies to one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which is Quality Education be it theoretically or practically. I will personally carry these experiences, memories and lifelong learning with me throughout my career as a veterinarian.
